“I am a generally nervous person when it comes to dentists; I’ve had bad experiences that truly changed my perceptions of dentistry. Add on pain and discomfort… oof. I don’t look forward to any type of visit; let alone one where I know bad news is afoot. Let me just say, River Park I was probably the best experience I have ever had.”

Sedation Options

Sedation dentistry has revolutionized how patients view going to the dentist. Those who were once afraid or anxious about going to the dentist can now go to visits with confidence and reassurance. Sedation dentistry is used for healthy individuals who need assistance relaxing or managing their fears about treatment. Common reasons for needing sedation include long treatment times, dental phobia, or a negative dental experience in the past.

Should I choose sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is an excellent option to help you get the care you need in the least stressful way possible. Sedation covers a range of treatments, and our team at River Park Dental can help determine which sedation option is best for you. We offer nitrous oxide sedation and minimal oral sedation. Normally we recommend a combination of both. Your age, health, and any medications you are taking all play a role in your eligibility for sedation dentistry.

Video 01:01 | Teeth grinding also known as Bruxism often happens at night during sleep. Bruxism may be related to stress and anxiety, sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or temporomandibular joint. Learn more about the symptoms of teeth grinding and find out how your dentist can fit you with a mouth protector to help guard your teeth during sleep.

What should I expect if I am sedated for my dental procedure?

This depends on which type of sedation is selected. Oral minimal sedation involves taking medication prior to your procedure that will help you feel relaxed but aware of your surroundings. Patients who select nitrous oxide inhale gas throughout their procedure and will experience a calming feeling for the duration of treatment. Normally we recommend a combination of both, where most people tend to doze off and recollect very little of the procedure. This combination protocol will require someone to drive you to/from the appointment.

Are there any precautions I need to take after being sedated?

Yes, Dr. Ahmed will review these at your initial consultation appointment.
